Orinoka Civic House preview with NKCDC

What’s new for New Kensington CDC? Join PlanPhilly and NKCDC for a site visit to Orinoka Civic House in Kensington. It’s the mixed-use affordable housing development and soon-to-be home for NKCDC, built from the former Orinoka Mills, a 19th century textile mill site at East Somerset and Ruth streets. We’ll tour the nearly-finished Orinoka Civic House, discuss how Somerset Neighbors for Better Living are organizing to improve the neighborhood, and visit Porch Light’s new Kensington Storefront – all of which are efforts to build a healthier, more hopeful future for a corner of the city challenged by the opioid epidemic. We’ll also get a chance to sit down with Felix Torres-Colon, NKCDC’s new executive director, and hear about his visions for the organization.
